Chihiro, thank you so much.
We booked Chihiro for a couple's shoot at Expo '70 Commemorative Park that included my proposal to Peony, my then‑girlfriend and now fiancée. For two people who flew in from Canada, it became a day we'll never forget.
Starting around June, I spent months seriously comparing 20–30 photographers across fotowa, Instagram and personal websites, and researched locations from scratch. Chihiro didn't have many reviews yet, but the depth and richness of the tones in her gallery drew me in immediately. I'm colourblind, so rich, carefully graded colour stands out to me more than anything. Among so many photographers who favour a bright, airy look, her work was unlike anyone else's. This search taught me not to settle.
Before the shoot, she was quick and thorough in every message and brainstormed the proposal with me. I gave her very specific instructions, and she followed them to the letter. Shooting at the park required a permit. She helped with all of it: her details for the application, the Japanese forms and the contact with park staff. On the day, she printed the permit and presented it to the officials herself. She even found out that a film would be shooting in the park that day and gave us a heads‑up. That level of care says everything.
She advised us to arrive early because the park fills up fast, so we met at the gate at 9:30, and people were already lining up. Across 200+ photos, there isn't a single stranger in the background. Choosing angles that capture both us and the scenery while keeping everyone else out of frame, in that crowd, is real skill. We don't speak Japanese and she doesn't speak English, but with phone translation both ways, communication was easy. Honestly, it was excellent. She told us she'd stayed up the night before studying English on YouTube for us, which meant a lot. She gave us pose tips, took our ideas on board and kept us relaxed the whole time.
The proposal ran exactly as planned. I left our bags with her. She gave me the signal, ran over to Peony, told her not to move, and bought me time while I fumbled to get the ring out of the bag. Peony didn't suspect a thing. Chihiro read the room and the whole situation perfectly, and it played out beautifully.
We booked 10:00–12:00, but she was with us from 9:30 to about 12:30, with another shoot to get to afterwards. Even on the walk back to the gate, she kept spotting beautiful backdrops and stopping us to pose, people passing by and all. Photography can't be rushed, and few photographers paid by the hour understand that the way she does.
As she described herself, she's frank and unpretentious, with a warmth that comes through immediately. She's cheerful, hardworking and completely invested in making your day special. That personality is in her photos too, right there in those rich tones.
We received over 200 photos in just five days, well above the 150 minimum. There are so many settings and so many beautiful shots that I can't pick a favourite.
Looking back, this couldn't have happened with anyone else. It felt like fate. If you're a couple from overseas planning a proposal or a special shoot in Japan, book her.
Chihiro, thank you from both of us. We can't wait to see you in Toronto.- 2026/10 撮影
